Hi Falcons! My name is Ms. Stallman and I am your School Social Worker! I work alongside your counselors, Mr. Rogen and Mrs. Zarling. This is my 2nd year at Frontier and I also work at Cedarcrest Middle School. Previously, I worked for Tacoma Public Schools at the elementary level.
My job looks very similar to your school counselors. We all work together to make a rock’n counseling team that provides support to students, families and staff. Counselors and other staff members connect me with students all the time for additional support. In addition, there may be a time when Mr. Rogen or Mrs. Zarling are not available and you might be struggling with an urgent issue. The great thing is you can reach out to me for help!
A little bit about me, I graduated from Orting High School in 2003. If I am being honest, I struggled in school and for a long time I hated going. In high school, I found that sports were an awesome outlet for me. I started playing basketball my freshman year and it really changed a lot for me.
Through sports, I was connected to adults that really encouraged me to work hard and persevere even when things were tough. I started out my freshman year on C team and because of hardwork and determination I moved up to varsity by the end of my freshman year.
After graduating high school, I enrolled in cosmetology school. I loved doing hair and enjoyed making great connections with my clients. In 2007, I enrolled at Pierce Community College to pursue a degree in social services. I knew that I wanted to work with people in need and help eliminate barriers impacting their life.
This was a scary step for me because as I mentioned earlier school was not easy for me. Also, I was the first person in my family to attend college so I didn’t have a lot of knowledge on how to navigate college. School felt different for me though then I did in high school. It was still hard and I had to work harder than many to retain and understand material but I felt determined and driven.
Little did I know then, the drive and determination would carry me through MANY years of college. In 2014, I graduated from the University of Washington with a Masters in Social Work. Fun fact, Mr. Rogen and I went to grad school together. I think it is so COOL that I get to work closely with him now!
I am a mother to two amazing children. Elijah (13) and Sophia(11) have given me so much strength and purpose in life. I also have the coolest dog EVER! His name is Kane and he is a rescue dog who came to us all the way from Texas. He is 85 pounds but still thinks he is a lap dog.
My family LOVES to camp and explore the beautiful PNW! We are always looking for new places to camp, hike and swim. One of our favorite things to do is find places to cliff jump into beautiful (and often freezing ) water. Lake Crescent is a must go for me every summer!
